Financial Leaders Working Group (FLWG)
IFSL’s Trade Policy team serves as the European convenor for the Financial Leaders Group (FLG). The Financial Leaders Group, and its Working Group, represent companies and business associations in financial services, including banking, insurance, insurance intermediation, asset management, securities and pensions. Their membership is drawn from Australia, Canada, the European Union, Hong Kong, Japan, Switzerland and the United States, and includes many of the leading global financial services suppliers.
The FLG played a crucial role in the Agreement on Financial Services which was ultimately achieved in December 1997 and remains active in coordinating global financial services interests in the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations. The Chairman of the LOTIS Committee, John Cooke, also serves as Co-Chair of the Financial Leaders Working Group.
European Services Forum (ESF)
IFSL is a prominent member of the
European Services Forum
which brings together over 30 Chairmen, CEOs and Senior Partners from companies from all EU member states. They comprise the European Service Leaders Group. This Group is supported by a working level Policy Committee, which is made up of the personal representatives of the Leaders and 35 European-wide federations of the sectors involved. All tradable services are represented, not only financial but telecommunications, postal and delivery, tourism, air transport, shipping, IT and many more. The ESF was first brought together in April 1999 at the suggestion of the European Commission in order to provide direct private sector advice, information and support to the EC negotiators on trade in services.
Global Services Coalition (GSC)
IFSL plays a leading role in the Global Services Coalition. The GSC is an informal, private sector-led, forum which gathers the global services community of business people, government officials, academics, and others who are committed to increased trade and investment in services, and a rules-based, multilateral trading system. The Network's participants are dedicated to build global support for the liberalisation of international services trade through multilateral negotiations under the auspices of the World Trade Organisation.
